MSW and /MATM/MTS/MDiv-Dual Degree Program
MSW and Brite Divinity School Dual Degrees
The purpose of this dual degree is to prepare students for leadership positions in divinity ministries, social service agencies, and organizations.
There are three dual degree options:
Master of Social Work and Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry (MSW/MATM)
Master of Social Work and Master of Theological Studies (MSW/MTS)
Master of Social Work and Master of Divinity (MSW/MDiv)
Admissions Requirements
Candidates must be admitted into both the MSW Program and one of the Brite Divinity School's Programs (MATM, MTS, MDiv). Please see each of these respective programs in the graduate catalog for more details.
Degree Requirements
Students who decide to complete their MSW degree without continuing into a Brite degree program must meet all remaining requirements for the MSW (i.e., elective units in the MSW Program). Traditional students must apply for the dual degree status prior to completing 21 MSW degree credit hours. Advanced standing students must declare their dual degree plans when they apply to the MSW program. Dual degree program students (i.e., MSW and MATM, MTS, MDiv) must meet all requirements of both programs. Traditional MSW students can complete MSW elective requirements by attending approved Brite Divinity School electives, yet they must confirm each elective with their MSW and Brite academic advisors. Practicum placements for dual degree students will be made via consultation with both the social work director of practicum education and a Brite Divinity School representative. Students must register conjointly at both institutions for required practicum hours, yet will only make practicum tuition payments with Brite.

DUAL DEGREE FOR ADVANCED STANDING STUDENTS MSW AND DEGREE FROM BRITE DIVINITY SCHOOL (MDiv, MATM, MTS)
Students in the Advanced Standing MSW Program who enter the dual degree program will be able to complete the requirements of the MSW by taking their elective courses from a departmentally approved list of courses offered at Brite Divinity School. Choices of practicum placement will be made on an individual basis through consultation with both the Department of Social Work and Brite Divinity School. Students will register conjointly at both institutions for 6 hours of practicum work, but will only pay the tuition at Brite for those hours.
